About Cave Diver Harry

Over the past 33 years, Harry has owned, managed or staffed retail dive stores and resort dive operations in the eastern Caribbean, Virginia, Florida, Illinois, California and Hawai’i. He has also done consulting work for several dive equipment manufacturers, including Dive Rite, Seatec, Sherwood and TUSA.

There is even a persistent rumor that, at various times, Harry worked at PADI, NAUI and TDI/SDI headquarters, and has created textbooks, illustrations or on-line training materials for all three organizations, as well as for SSI, NSS-CDS and NOAA. We will admit this much: Should you happen to see a training agency logo with a diver superimposed over a stylized globe, or an advertising slogan having to do with "…the Way the World Learns to Dive,” and asked yourself, “Who comes up with stuff like this…?” Well, it is possible Harry is the guilty party.

Some raw statistics:

• Years spent with nothing better to do than dive for a living: 36.
• Number of dives made: Over 7,500.
• Number of cavern and cave dives made (a sure sign of insanity): Over 3,300.
• Number of instructors trained at various levels: Over 1,000.
• Number of divers trained at various levels: (Plumb forgot…).
• Number of body recoveries worked: 7 (1 recreational; 1 technical, 5 cave diving).
• Number of days spent working as a dive boat captain or crew: Over 1,000.
• Number of divers for whom Harry has captained charters or guided dives: Over 10,000.
• Number of times Harry was scared shitless and was certain he was about to die: (Can’t enumerate; insufficient fingers and toes).

When not teaching, Harry works as a web developer and instructional design and content consultant.
