Fins

Split fins are fantastic. I own not one, but two pair of Atomic Liquid Blue split fins and I use them everywhere — except, of course, in a cave.

Unfortunately, as great as split fins are for recreational diving, they are really bad when it comes to the specialized kicks and propulsion techniques we use in caves. Even worse: Split fins. Guidelines. Entanglement. (You do the math.)

On the other hand, I can’t say enough good things about spring heel straps. They are readily available as an after-market accessory that can be retrofitted to most adjustable fins.

Good choices: Dive Rite, Scubapro Jet Fins, AquaLung Blades II.
