Exposure Suits
Sooner or later, almost every Florida cave diver goes dry. Hundred-foot depths, hour-plus bottom times, deco stops where you aren’t moving to generate heat — you get the picture. That having been said, a cave diving course is not the place to be using a dry suit for the first time. If diving dry isn’t second nature to you, stick with a good, warm wet suit. You’ll need at least 7 mm in the core (two layers are better) and a hood. No gloves, though. You want to be able to feel the guideline with your fingers.
Wet or dry, you can’t beat suit-mounted thigh pockets. Can’t spring for a dry suit? Get Steve Gamble to put a thigh pocket (or two) on your wetsuit. It’s so better than any waistband-mounted utility pocket.
